He’s performed in backup orchestras for Shirley MacLaine, Bob Hope, Tommy Tune, Manhattan Rhythm Kings, and Toshiko Akiyoshi. He has served as a clinician, presenter and performer at numerous educational venues throughout the United States, Puerto Rico and Europe including: The Eastern Trombone Workshop, Big 12 Trombone Conference, New Mexico Music Educators Association, Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, College Music Society, National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors, and Music Educators National Conference.Īs a bass trombonist, Wilborn has achieved positions in such notable ensembles as the Eastman Wind Ensemble, Texas Chamber Symphony, Round Top Festival Orchestra, Amarillo Symphony, and the Music Academy of the West Orchestra. Wilborn is the author of numerous articles dealing with music education and trombone pedagogy. His teachers were Donald Knaub and John Marcellus. Wilborn holds the Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Texas at Austin, the Master of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music, and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Texas.
